What's Going on in the Kids Ministry

For those of you who have not read about the changes happening this Sunday, check out this article. I am very excited about this Sunday because it provides an opportunity for more people to use their gifts and talents that God has given them. We are a team working together and it is much more fun to get to play rather than sit on the bench!

This week in Big City we are in Numbers 14. The Israelites have decided that they are going to go to war whether God wants them to or not. I don't know about you, but I try not to give God ultimatums. For some reason I think God is a little smarter than us. Can you sense my sarcasm? The reality is that we do sometimes jump into things without checking to see if it is God's will for our life or not. Real success comes from doing God's will.

Reason Why You Don't Want to Miss This Sunday

What a tremendous service of celebration last Sunday! It made me even more thankful to be a part of KNC.

The NEW Early Worship service begins this Sunday morning at 8:00 AM. I must admit that in my heart there is both anticipation and anxiety. I’m anticipating a wonderful service with a little different approach that will provide an opportunity for another group of Christians to worship more freely and God pours out His Spirit in our midst. But the anxiety still causes me to worry about such things as (1) Who will be there?; (2) We still need a good group of volunteers who will help in making this service fly; and (3) What if I fall asleep during Pastor Eric’s message? (Just kidding!)

If you’ve been thinking about attending this new worship opportunity, why not give it a try? You may discover that 8:00 AM really is not that early and that freeing up space for others in a later service is worth it!

Fellowship: What is it?

I remember hearing the term fellowship defined as two persons in a ship choosing to row in the same direction. In the Koinh (Greek) text the word κοινωνια (koinonia) is translated in the English text with a variety of word choices such as fellowship, participation, communion, contribution, sharing and etcetera. Why so many English words for one Greek word? The Greek word desires to communicate an idea that takes different English words to convey its meaning when it is used in different contexts. I believe the key ideas conveyed in this word are essential to a Christian having a healthy relationship with God and His Church. Let me take a shot at teaching this idea… Κοινωνια (koinonia) is active participation in multiple relationships. It is sharing all of life without withholding oneself from anyone in the family. It is contributing in every area of another’s need. It is communing in one spirit with a community of one’s choice. The Apostle John writes: “We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ (1 John 1:3). Christianity is Κοινωνια (koinonia) with God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. God is fellowshipping with you, participating in the relationship with you, communing with you, sharing all good things with you! Christianity is also Κοινωνια (koinonia) with a local church. We are privileged to choose to actively fellowship, participate, commune, contribute and share with one another as a local family of God.

P.S. I used to think fellowship was another word for a potluck after church.
