Be Baptized!

Why do Christians get baptized? Jesus, our resurrected Lord, commanded us to get baptized in Matthew 28:19: "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit". In the first Christian sermon, Acts 2:14-41, Peter obeyed Christ's command when he proclaimed: "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit"(v.38). Luke's narration presents the evidence of Peter's obedient call: "Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day"(v. 41). The Christian Church from its beginning at Pentecost (Acts 2) has obediently baptized those who believe on Jesus Christ. Why do we need an outward sign of our inward grace? Dr. Staples comments: "The gospel is not a system of timeless ideas but is rooted in the soil of a particular history where the Word was made flesh. Therefore our appropriation of the gospel is not an abstract, inward, invisible acceptance, but is ever expressed in a given, historical, visible outward sign so that the Word may become flesh in our own experience. That sign is baptism" (Outward Sign And Inward Grace; 156). When we believe on Christ, we turn to God and in obedience we get baptized. The Bible reveals that God in His Wisdom and Timing gives all of us His Holy Spirit in our hearts. In Acts we see that some get the Holy Spirit before baptism, some get the Holy Spirit during Baptism and still others get the Holy Spirit after baptism. God knows what He's doing! Let's follow Jesus and get baptized.

Puppet Fundraiser this Sunday!

The Newly established Teen Puppet Team is having a fundraising Dinner after 3rd service this Sunday, April 6th. The Baked Potato Bar will help to fund their upcoming trip to Portland, Oregon for a “OneWay Street Workshop”! They are so excited to be attending this workshop where they will learn how to maneuver the puppets and use arm rods. They can also take an extra class on black light, or ballooning, or something else creative.
The Workshop is on April 11th and 12th, so this is our last try at raising the funds to make our trip more accessible to the puppeteers. The Registration fees for the workshop have been paid. We are now working on fuel costs. Your help is greatly appreciated.
The Baked Potato Bar will have chili, cheese, sour cream, and many other items. We will also provide a salad, and drinks. A free will offering is being accepted. Thank you so much for your support!

What's Going on in the Kids Ministry

We have some very cool things happening in Big City on Sunday mornings for the next few weeks:
April 6th is Baptism Sunday. We will be baptizing the kids during the 3rd service. We plan to bring the kids into the adult service for most of that service. It is not too late to get on the list to be baptized. Bring your towel and join in! Our topic that morning will be about doubting Thomas.
April 13th we will be having missionaries Steve and Tamara Fairbanks join us in Big City during the 3rd service. They are serving in Indonesia and will be sharing about their experiences there. Our topic that morning will be Peter's concern that everyone else gets a job too.
April 20th we will be having the Puppet People with us during 3rd service. Puppet People is the puppet team from the Eagle Nazarene Church. We will bring the preschoolers into Big City for the performance as well. We will be learning about the Great Commission that morning.
April 27th will be Baby Day. We will be celebrating babies that day. Bring your strollers for the parade in the services!
