What can I do to make a difference?

Not long ago someone, in the course of a conversation, stated that they really would like to be involved and support a ministry or ministries in our local church but did not know what they could do that would make a difference. That person had watched other people in the church do things like teach a Bible study, greet people in the foyer, sing on the worship team, or work in the nursery. But they either didn’t feel capable or motivated to participate. If you happen to be in this kind of quandary yourself hear these words.
(1) WE ARE ALL GIVEN AT LEAST ONE SPIRITUAL GIFT. “We have different gifts, according to the grace given us.” (Romans 12:6) “There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit.” (I Cor. 12:4) “It was He who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service so that the body of Christ may be built up…” (Ephesians 4:11-12)
(2) WITH THE GIFT(S) COMES RESPONSIBILITY. “To whom much is given, much is required.” “From Him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does it work.”
(3) HOW DOES ONE DISCOVER THEIR SPIRITUAL GIFT(S)? Seek the counsel of pastors and teachers. Take a spiritual gifts inventory test (available from a pastor or at a Christian bookstore.) Notice areas of service you seem to be drawn to or motivated by. God plants the desire to use our gifts along with the ability to be successful at using them. Example: A women in her younger years developed a desire to teach the Jr. High girls Sunday School class. After accepting the assignment and enjoying several years of joyful service in that capacity she actually discovered that even though she didn’t have a real strong gift of teaching, God was using her gift of mercy to effectively minister to junior high girls.
In conclusion, the Spirit of God has placed at least one spiritual gift in every Christian to be used to build up the church and bring fulfillment to the individual.

What's going on in the Kids Ministry

We had an amazing time in Big City last week! We all packed in for a great performance by the Puppet People. Thank you Puppet People for your investment in our kids.
We are celebrating babies this week for Baby Day. If you would like to join in the celebration, bring your babies or grandbabies and decorate their strollers if you like. We will be having a Baby Parade in both 2nd and 3rd service. Meet outside the sanctuary with your little one(s) at 9:50am and 11:20 to get in on the parade. We love our babies!
This week in Big City we are preparing for lift off! We will be looking at the Bible story in Acts 1 where Jesus takes off toward heaven. Could you imagine being there for that?! The angels said that Jesus will be returning just as they saw Him leave. Are you ready to go with Him next time?
We also will have a Children's Ministry Leader Potluck & Meeting directly after church in Big City. If you want to join us and don't know what to bring, call Edina Willis for details. Her phone number is 695-5239. See you there!
