Growing In God's Grace

Philippians 1:6 (New International Version)
6being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
Do you believe God will grow you in Christ? Kuna Nazarene's Purpose Statement is: "To Love People and Encourage Growth, no Matter Their Season of Life or Spiritual Depth." Paul said to the local church in Corinth in reference to the Gospel of Jesus Christ: "I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow (1 Cor. 3:6). God is faithful and He grows all believers in Christ. Sometimes we get our eyes off of God and the Devil distracts us by tempting us to focus on our behavior that reveals our present immaturity in our relationship with Christ, and we doubt our "new creation" relationship with God. God is faithful, and will complete us. God uses our"immature" behavior for good in our lives to show us our need to turn back to Him (repentance) and "grow" in Christ's character. This experience in our lives is humbling and often painful, but results in maturity and growth that is enabled by God's patience and grace. As Gordon Fee states: "Paul understand Christian ethics in terms of "becoming what you are" (NICNT, 17). We are "already... not yet". What we are experiencing right now in life is called growing in God's grace. Paul reminds us that God loves us and we are the object of His love, when he writes: "4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8Love never fails"(1 Cor. 13). God will grow us!

Sundays at Kuna Nazarene

Last Sunday I started the mini-series entitled “24/7 WORSHIP”. It is an effort over the next few weeks to answer the question “Why worship?” You see, attending church on a regular Sunday by Sunday basis is a great habit. But it really has the potential and the need to be much more than a disciplined habit. Our weekly worship services can be times that you look forward to throughout your busy week – an event to look forward to with anticipation! Someone once said, “If you aim at nothing, you’ll be sure to hit it!” That’s why I think it is important for us to come to church each Sunday with joyful expectation! Monday Night Football used to always include in it opening the question by Hank Williams, Jr., “Are you ready for some football?!” My question for each Sunday morning worship service is very similar, “Are you ready for some church?!”

What's going on in the Teen Ministry

“I have a Dream…” so goes a famous line, from a famous quote. What’s your Dream? That’s the question the youth will be asked in the next “Real Rock” (Jan. 23rd). What’s Real Rock? It’s a Wednesday youth group lesson planned around teens dividing into small groups. It’s a time where teens can get to know each other and share their faith in a more intimate way. God says in Proverbs 29:18 “Where there is no vision, (Divine Revelation) the people perish: but he that keeps the law, happy is he.” Do you know that God has a vision, a dream, for each of His children? The only way to come into that vision, His plan (see Jer. 29:11) for your life is to get into the Law, His WORD. What is your Dream, & does it line up with God’s vision for you?

What's going on in the Kids Ministry

I am so proud of our kids quizzing team! They did an awesome job last Saturday as they quiz through the book of Genesis. They are storing the Word of God in their hearts. That's exciting!
A couple of things that I want to make you aware of:
1. Remember that the VeggieTales Pirates Movie is not this Saturday, but next Saturday at 9:00. We have close to 140 people signed up- it's going to be great! It's not too late. Just join us at Majestic Theater. We do have to pay with one check, so try to be on time so we can get everyone in before the movie starts. If you would like to pay in advance, that may help us speed the process up with such a large group. Turn your checks in at the check-in table on Sunday or find me afterward.
2. We are tweaking our check-in system on Sunday. We are getting rid of our beautiful cards that you guys like to keep. :) Our new system does require that the parents have a nametag on. Please have a nametag on before you come to the children's check-in. That will speed up the process for us. Thanks!
3. The Caravan Kids Club is starting on their pinewood derby cars. This would be a great way to get your kids into a great program on Wednesday night.
See you Sunday in Big City Studio!
