Why Messy Game Night?

Last Wednesday night, we pulled out one of the youth group’s favorite activities “Messy Game Night”. As you can tell by the pictures this activity is well, messy. I thought I would respond to the question posed by parents, who have the inside of their cars dirty now; “Why Messy Game Night?” The answer comes in two parts; 1. The teens love ‘em and in addition to getting messy, they invite their friends to attend. 2. Messy Game Night is an outward symbol of what Jesus wants to do to us on the inside. We are dirty (sinners) and He wants to clean us up. Only by His sacrifice we are made clean! Inside & Out!
Check out these Bible verses:
Psalm 51:6-8
Surely you desire truth in the inner parts; you teach me wisdom in the inmost place. Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice.
Isaiah 1:18
"Come now, let us reason together," says the LORD. "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.”
Ezekiel 36:25-27
I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.
1 John 1:7
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
Do you need to be cleaned up?
May God richly Bless You! (& Clean You)

What's going on with the Kids Ministry

All right, I'll admit it. Taylor has a baseball game tomorrow at 10:00am so we will be missing the Prince Caspian showing for our church. What a bummer! Not to be outdone, Taylor and I went and watched it last night. So how was it? It was awesome! The graphics, characters, and storyline were all very well done- but don't miss the message! I've never read the book so I'm not sure who was supposed to be who. I watched it assuming that Aslan was Jesus and the Narnians and the "kings and queens of Narnia" was the church and the leaders of the church. What a fascinating story! I'd love to see it again. Don't miss it tomorrow at 9:00am at the Majestic!! The funny thing is that the topic in Big City this week is the same as what the movie is about. I could tell you but I don't want to ruin it for you. You'll have to come Sunday to find out!

Who Are You Going To Be?

Who are you going to be? I didn’t ask you: “What do you want to be?” I intentionally asked: “Who are you going to be?” Have you ever read a “Choose Your Own Adventure” book? These are books that are designed to have different “paths” based upon the choices you make. For example, if you choose choice “A” you turn to page 36; or if you choose choice “B” you turn to page 49. Your choices impact the storyline and the conclusion of your adventure. God has designed your life to be a “Choose Your Own Adventure” life. In the Bible, Paul wrote to Timothy: “Now in a large house there are not only gold and silver vessels, but also vessels of wood and of earthenware, and some to honor and some to dishonor. Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from these things, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, useful to the Master, prepared for every good work. Now flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart” (2 Timothy 2:20-22). Right now is an important time in your life when you get to choose what kind of vessel you are going to be. God has gifted you with the freedom to choose. You are a free moral agent and your choices will affect your life’s story. God loves you and is always pursuing you and giving you every opportunity to confess Jesus as Lord and turn to Him and follow Him. The sooner you turn to God and choose to participate in His kingdom life the “greater” your adventure will be. Go for the gold!

P.S. The only guide to making solid choices is listening to the Holy Spirit as you read the Bible.

What if your hut burns?

The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed up on a small, uninhabited island. He prayed feverishly for God to rescue him. Everyday he scanned the horizon for help, but no one seemed forthcoming.
Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect him from the elements, and to store his few possessions.
One day, after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames, with smoke rolling up to the sky. He felt the worst had happened, and everything was lost. He was stunned with disbelief, grief, and in anger He cried out, "God! How could you do this to me?"
Early the next day, he was awakened by the sound of a ship approaching the island! It had come to rescue him!
"How did you know I was here?" asked the weary man of his rescuers.
"We saw your smoke signal," they replied.
The Moral of the Story:
It is easy to get discouraged when things are going bad, but we should not lose heart, because God is at work in our lives...even in the midst of pain and suffering.
Remember that the next time your little hut seems to be burning to the ground. It just may be a smoke signal that summons the Grace of God.

Get Plugged In

There are always lots of ways to plug into ministry. We are going to be highlighting some each week. Here are a couple needs:
1. Lynnette Wagner, our great hostess at the children's check-in table, is stepping out a little bit as Ron heals up. We need help filling in the gap. This position greets new visitors and makes sure that the check-in is going smoothly and that there is enough help in each of the classrooms. This position is from 9:00am to 11:00am. We can fill this hole a number of ways. We could use one or more people to rotate in and out of that position. We could also fill it by having some people volunteer to teach the 2nd hour (9:30 hour) of Critterland (preschool age). This would free Mindi up to fill in for Lynnette. If you are interested in helping to fill this need, please see Pastor Brian or Mindi Seaney.
2. Starting in September, we are hoping to have a junior high Sunday School class. We need a teacher(s) and some helpers to begin to piece together this ministry. The class would be offered 3rd hour (11:00 hour). We would also like to start a junior high ministry on Wednesday nights. If you are interested in helping start these ministries, please contact Pastor Dewey.
